Another day, another clone of Snapchat Stories! This time Medium launches Series, available to its mobile app users. According to Katie Zhu, Product and Engineering at Medium, the Series are a 'new type of story to Medium for readers who just can’t wait for that next post'. Series are stories that users can add on the Medium mobile app on iOS and Android, starting from today (one also can create the Series on desktop, too but you can't view it there). 'Stacked up' as cards, the updates unfold as a story, one by one, when you tap on the right side of the screen. One can create the cards using text, images, and GIFs.

Borrowing features from Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Periscope, Series represent 'a new way to read on Medium that’s both seamless and serialized', according to the company's announcement.

Medium Series features include opt-in push notifications for new cards from the creators you follow; ability to go back to the story where you left it; and giving feedback to the creator in the form of claps ?.

Medium Series launch comes shortly after the company's CEO Ev Williams announcement that Medium 'didn’t yet have the right solution to the big question of driving payment for quality content' in January this year.

If the people you follow on Medium haven't started creating Series yet, you can tune into the ones created by Melinda Gates who dives into ways to save the lives of children across the globe, Bernie Sanders who explores the human stories behind rising prescription drug prices, Quincy Larson and his take on why he believes net neutrality works, and Jeff Lewonczyk who  a vivid picture of the future through illustrations. Medium will show you both the stories from the people you follow and featured content hand-picked by the editorial team.

With a limited functionality (you can't draw on the screen or flip the phone for a landscape version of a photo or a video), Medium Series signal to be the company's rushed move to identify its strategy. It does also signal however that, just like its new Series, Medium is not disappearing any time soon.
